Baby steps…

I hope everyone has been doing well in my short hiatus!

Lots has been happening…  mentally & physically!  In my last post I filled you in on my back problems.  I started back up with my running schedule, but that ended up being short lived.  Thankfully not because of my back, but due to me being clumsy and slipping off a curb a week later and having a b!%ch of a sprain.  I can look back on that moment now & laugh, but boy…I cried…I mean ugly cried.

I got my son out of the car & went to the passenger side to get my things & before you know it I slipped, I heard a pop/crack & my butt was on the ground.  I couldn’t get up, I couldn’t do anything but hold my ankle tight.  Natie was great, stayed by my side because here we are in the parking lot of his daycare.  No one knew I was there and I didn’t want him to get help & God forbid get hit by a car.  So he stayed by my side & got the phone out of the car for me.  I tried calling Rich for a half an hour.  The one time he didn’t take his phone with him is when I fall off the curb.  Thankfully my friend Kim was on her way to drop her daughter off at daycare too and came to my rescue.  She brought Natie into school & then got me into the car & off to the ER we went.  Seriously – if you ever need to go to the ER – she’s who you want to go with .  Took my mind off the pain & had me cracking up!  I finally got a hold of Rich & he soon joined us.

Fast forward to today – the ankle is 100% and I can walk, I even started back to week 1, day 1 the other day with the c25k.  It SUCKS going back to the beginning but I need to take it slow to avoid more injury.  Believe it or not the range of motion isn’t all there yet.  I don’t recall recovering from a sprain taking this long…age I guess?

Speaking of age – this all happened 2 days before my birthday.  My dreams of apple picking that day ended up getting squashed, but I did find joy in taking a shower with the help of my husband.  (mind out of gutter people!)

I was also stressed during that time because we had planned a party for Natie for this birthday, but thankfully it all came together & everyone had a great time.  I’ll have to do a post on that too!

So yeah, like I said, the running is back to the beginning.  I’m truly ok with that because I NEED it.  I really do.  I’ve said a million times – I need it not only to keep my weight in check, but also for my mind…my focus, and my emotions.

The weight…  Amazingly I managed to stay on track while I was laid up.  I was so proud of myself – especially being my fitbit said I did a max of 1k something in steps in the beginning!  Once I lost the crutches (a week later!) I did squeak in some 10k step days!  But…eventually old horrible habits came creeping back in, along with failed TTC attempts and gorging myself seemed to be the way to go.  I’d pick myself back up, dust myself off & rock out a week…but then slip back into poopie caca mode.  Poopie caca mode is where I was this morning after stepping on the scale & seeing a 5.8 lb. gain.  Uh huh…5.8 lbs.  That’s in just 2 weeks…not a month, not a year…2 FREAKIN WEEKS!

So, I’m back, tired of my own “ish” and trying to take it one day at a time…ok, one meal at a time.

I’m needing help – I’m asking you to be my Jillian Michaels & kick my ass!  Are you up for this challenge?  (cough cough, am I up for this challenge?)

Oh Lori! Sorry to hear! Super excited about your TTC efforts! I say alcohol, relaxation, lots of practice works! 😉 I’m here to be your support! Just don’t kick your ass too bad, be kind to your beautiful self!

  2. Oh man, again, so sorry to hear about your ankle but I had no idea you were laying out in the parking lot and for that long! You poor thing! There has been one time where I couldn’t get ahold of my husband either and it was major and I about lost my mind. He felt awful (his phone was on silent and forgot to turn the ringer on)—I think I had called him about 20 times hoping he’d answer. He made it up to me though with flowers. I forgave. 😉 LOL

So glad to hear the ankle is better and I’m with ya on the caca pooie stuff. I’m here for you and we can do this! I’m in!!!

So you already have the secret! 😉 That’s been my “key” every time! 🙂

  4. You did amazingly well during your recovery and the fact that you were off crutches so soon was quite amazing! All we can do is look forward and keep taking it day by day. The holidays are a bitch! But awesome to be posting this now then on jan 1.

Oh my you poor thing. What a terrible place to injure yourself. I did something similar just the other day It was the first time I ever sprained something in my 42 years I’ve always been lucky only thing I’ve managed to do was break my wrist some years ago…
How it happened was it was starting to get dark out and I decided to go out to the mailbox my 19 yo son went with me ironic thing was the day before we were talking about whether or not sprains hurt worse than a break.
Well near the mailbox he asked me what time it was so I looked down at my watch and I stepped into a hole my foot rolled, popped and I fell down hard skinning both my knees. Oh my god the pain it was excrutiating. I grabbed and hugged my ankle then cried like a baby.
My son consoled me I finally gained my composure and then tried to stand up and put weight on it it made me burst back into tears walking was NOT an option.
Then out of nowhere like a knight in shining armor he picked me up bridal style and carried to the house. I was so embarrassed. The next day a trip to the ER for X-rays and it came back as a 2nd degree sprain. All in all I’m just glad my son was there when it occurred I’d of layed out there forever before anyone noticed.
Anyways I hope you healed well and never have to go through that again. As do I… lol it was NO fun at all. Take care Lori. xoXOxo

Oy! Kate I’m so sorry! Seriously – to have been just talking about it the day before? UGH! I guess you got your answer, right?

I was surprised how aggressive they treat sprains now. In one week my doc wanted me off the crutches. That day I was walking out of his office using them for support and “stretching” the foot/ankle as I walked. Just to have 2 ft on the ground was wonderful. 2.5 months later, I still have limited range of motion, but I have started jogging again & it’s helping.

There is an end in sight…I promise. Going through it & feeling helpless as a Mom is the hardest! ❤

I know it was like I willed it to happen. Oh I found out how bad it they hurt alright I never want to experience that again. I’m definitely not a crier but when I fell down and clenched my ankle I wished it wasn’t attached to my body all I could do was cry and then my son carrying me was adorable and humiliating at the same time.
I’m used to being the superhero mom we’re suppose to be indestructable. 😛

Anyways I know what you mean my doctor is taking me off crutches in a week aswell.
I was also suprised to know that spraining your ankle takes longer to heal than a break…
This whole thing is very intimidating. But at least I have my son and daughter they’ve been absolutely incredible helping me with everything so you’re right there is an end in sight I just gotta stay positive.
It’s getting late you have yourself a good night Lori or day whenever you read this. xo
